Simple Delight

Turning on for short periods of time, I am barely being used. As I stay in my dormant state, I see a family connect after being apart for a year. It brings tears to my eyes but I cannot cry. This family has reunited in Georgia in the house of the eldest son. He normally watches me for his entire day but now I stay off. Instead he spends time with his younger sister and parents. I do however become active when they eat and I show them tales of zombies and survivors. They cuddle up and watch me and once they are done eating they move on without me.

As I look out at the family before me, I see them start to grow more comfortable with each other once again. Even though they all lived under the same roof for 22 years, they have been separated for a while now and are enjoying being in the presence of one another. It is truly a simple delight: being able to sit together and just do nothing together. The brother would tease and torment the sister and the parents would laugh in joy as they see their children together once again. What a beautiful sight to see.

My most entertaining night of all was when I saw the family with complexed looks on their faces as I showed them engaging games of chess. They sat there and watched all the games I had to show them and once they finished watching, it was back to sleep for me. It was serene in a way being dormant for so long as I got to witness this beautiful family reconnect and find happiness among each other. It was a beautiful moment and now that I have been replaced, it was a beautiful sight to see.

This is written from the POV of my brother's TV. My family and I went down to Georgia to visit him during Thanksgiving Break and it was a surreal experience. I hadn't seen my brother in a year and it was so nice to see him again. The tale of zombies that the TV showed us was "The Walking Dead" and the games of chess that the TV showed us was "The Queen's Gambit". The whole time we were there, I felt so happy to be there with my entire family and it was the best Thanksgiving I could have asked for given the circumstances.
