My Mentor Dinner Party

During our childhood, we look up to our parents, guardians, and even siblings for guidance. They are the people who shape our being and make us who we are to this day. One of my favorite conversations from class this week was analyzing the roles mentors can have in peoples' lives. I was reading an article one day that said that every person is a mosaic of all the people they meet in their life. Something about that sentiment is so beautiful to me. Thinking about my own mosaic, I think I have my mom's compassion, my dad's humor, my brother's confidence, and my grandma's musical talent. Even when someone leaves your life, it's amazing to think that the impact they had on you will never go away.

People can find their mentors anytime during their life. Mentors are experienced people that offer guidance, listen closely, provide options, if not solutions to barriers in our lives; we can download their experience, synthesize the information we get, and forge on empowered.

I think one of the most iconic interview questions about mentors is "Who are 3 people alive or dead that you would invite to your dinner party?" Today, I am going to highlight three of my mentors and why I would want to invite them to my "dinner party". For me, I would select Lionel Messi, Alex Trebek, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. These three people all represent three different facets of my life that I am very passionate about. Lionel Messi was my biggest inspiration and was the main reason I started playing soccer. His hard work and determination made him arguably the best soccer player in the world and I hope to work just as hard to achieve my own dreams. I would love to talk to him about the hardships he faced and just talk about his amazing soccer accomplishments. Alex Trebek encouraged my zest for knowledge and trivia and I cannot wait to one day compete on Jeopardy and honor his memory. At the dinner party, I think I would ask him what prompted him to be the Jeopardy host and talk to him about his life and book- which I totally recommend. And finally, Ruth Bader Ginsburg represents my political views and she is a powerful female that made history. I want to just take the time to commend her on her amazing feats. She set the new standard in my life for stepping out of the conforms of society and fighting for justice.

Mentors have so much to teach and I think it is a valuable lesson to think about your mentors and why they are important to you often as it can provide a refreshing perspective on your own life and values. I hope you enjoyed my take on my mentors in life and I hope you can find the time to do it yourself, and as always thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed Storytime with Sejal.
